CTOnews.com March 28, iOS 16.4, iPadOS 16.4, macOS 13.3 and watchOS 9.4 updates add a long list of new operations and improvements to the dedicated Shortcuts app, which can be used on Apple's iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch.

Users can now use the find Book operation in the book application to search for books or PDF files by title, author, type, date of purchase, or type of content. You can also use the walkie-talkie operation to send notifications to the HomePod at home through the iOS device. In addition, there are special operations that can turn on or off the round-the-clock display function on supported devices. On Mac, there are also actions that allow users to log out or put Mac to sleep.

Find books: search for books or PDF files in the library on iOS and macOS

Walkie-talkie: broadcast announcements to the home on iOS and watchOS

Set up virtual private networks: connect, disconnect any virtual private networks, or set up on demand on iOS and macOS

Set AirDrop receive: set AirDrop receive preference to all, contacts only, or no one on iOS and macOS

Set up front scheduling: enable or disable and change the settings of the stage manager on iPadOS and macOS

Set Notification: toggle Notification Settings on iOS and watchOS

Mute unknown incoming calls: toggle the mute unknown incoming call settings on iOS

Set Night Shift mode and set True Tone: toggle display settings on iOS and macOS

Set up round-the-clock display: toggle all-weather display on supported iOS devices

Find applications: find and filter installed applications on macOS

Find monitors: find and filter monitors on macOS

Shutdown, restart, and Lock screen: now available on both iOS and macOS

Log out, sleep, and turn off the monitor: now available on macOS

Some existing operations have also been updated. For example, the find photo operation can now be used to find screenshot videos, while the get device details operation can now display the version number of the operating system.

Here are some updated shortcut operations:

Move window: you can now move the window to the monitor on the macOS

Request input: with a new "allow multiple lines" option, you can disable single-line text input

Find photos: you can now find screenshot videos

Find contacts: now filter more accurately by birthday

Get device details: you can now get the version number of the operating system

Get device details: numbers are now rounded, including current power, volume, and brightness, to remove unnecessary decimal places

Set playback target: now valid from Siri Runtime

Play music: if there is no incoming music as input, the currently played music will continue to be played.

Run AppleScript: you can now generate dictionaries from AppleScript records as output

No action: a variable containing zero items is now generated instead of no variables

Repeat: can now be set to run 0 times
