CTOnews.com, March 27 (Xinhua)-- Apple's iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models may be launched in France this year without SIM Cato, according to French website MacGeneration. This means that these devices can only use eSIM (CTOnews.com Note: embedded SIM) cellular connections.

If the SIM tray is removed in the French market, it may also be removed in at least some other European countries, as Apple usually sells the same iPhone model in most of Europe. For example, the iPhone 14 Pro model A2890 sold in France is also sold in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and other countries.

Apple removed all iPhone 14 series SIM pallets from the US market in September last year, forcing customers to use eSIM--, a digital SIM that allows users to activate cellular plans without using a physical nano-SIM card. Apple provides a support document that lists operators around the world that support eSIM technology.

When the iPhone 14 series was launched in the United States, Apple advertised that eSIM was more secure than physical SIM because they could not be removed from lost or stolen iPhone. Apple added that up to eight eSIM can be managed in iPhone's Settings app, eliminating the need to obtain, carry and replace physical SIM cards while traveling. IPhone 13 and later models can activate both eSIM at the same time.

Earlier, TechhInsights reported that eSIM would increase smartphone shipments by 15 per cent a year by 2023. While iPhone will continue to dominate the eSIM smartphone market in 2023, its share of the smartphone market will actually fall to 65%, reflecting the greater involvement of other smartphone manufacturers.

CTOnews.com Note: eSIM or eUICC is considered the next iteration of the SIM card, providing the ability to change the service provider profile through OTA without the need to physically replace the SIM card itself.
