The news caused a shock in the knowledge payment circle, with some bloggers saying it was greatly affected and the trading link was cut off.

But at the same time, some bloggers have received the latest official notice from Douyin that recharge items for education, training, life and entertainment will gradually return to the shelves from March 31 to April 3, affected by system upgrading. for the time being, only Android client users can view and place orders for the related products.

Douyin did not give a clear explanation for the change, saying only that it was "due to a system upgrade". But according to many analyses, this may have something to do with Apple's charging policy for virtual goods. CTOnews.com understands that Apple requires a 30 per cent commission on the purchase of virtual goods in the app, which is called the "apple tax". In the past, the course items on Douyin did not pay "apple tax", but now they may have to comply with Apple's regulations, so the financial settlement process needs to be modified.

In fact, the "Apple tax" has always been a controversial issue in the industry, and many apps have clashed with Apple, such as Wechat, Zhihu, Inker, Google, Netflix and other domestic and foreign companies. In the field of education, there are also cases where platforms such as learning from whom have been removed from Apple or forced to raise domestic purchase prices. It is not clear whether the price of the course will change after Douyin returns to the shelves.

During the period when the course goods were removed from the shelves, some knowledge bloggers took some countermeasures, such as using third-party Mini Program, giving away courses, selling physical materials, and so on to maintain sales. As a short video platform with large users and traffic, Douyin has attracted many education-related enterprises and individuals to settle in. According to e-commerce data released by Douyin in June 2022, the growth rate of industry sales in education and training from January to June was 2.2 times higher than that of Douyin e-commerce market. Some practitioners believe that Douyin will not give up this market, all actions are for better commercialization.
