Beijing, March 27 (Xinhua) some of the source code of Twitter has been leaked online, in a rare major intellectual property breach, according to a legal document. The company is struggling to reduce technical problems and reverse its business fortunes under Elon Elon Musk.

Twitter took action on Friday, sending copyright infringement notices to GitHub, the code hosting platform that publishes its source code, demanding that the leaked code be deleted, according to Twitter files. GitHub complied with Twitter's request and deleted the code that day. It is not clear how long the leaked code has been posted online, but it appears to have been public for at least a few months.

Twitter also asked the Northern District Court of California to order GitHub to identify who shared the code, as well as anyone else who downloaded the code. Twitter launched an investigation into the leak, according to two people familiar with the internal investigation. Executives in charge speculate that the person responsible left the company last year. Since Mr Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion last October, about 75 per cent of the company's 7500 employees have been fired or resigned.

Twitter executives only recently found out about the source code leak, according to people familiar with the matter. They worry that the code contains security vulnerabilities that could give hackers or other motivated parties access to extract user data or shut down websites. The leak of the source code adds to Twitter's challenges. Technology companies often regard such code as strictly confidential and are reluctant to share it because they fear it will give competitors an unfair advantage or expose security vulnerabilities.
