CTOnews.com, March 27, at the "Global 6G Technology Conference" held on March 23, Wu Hequan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, analyzed the needs and challenges of 6G technology from the perspective of terminal development.

"from 5G to 5G-Advanced, 6G, we can see some indicators of improvement, including bandwidth, peak rate, frequency efficiency, energy efficiency, application efficiency, reliability and so on. 6G is not just a question of how many times the peak rate of the decade generation will be increased, but more about providing efficiency, global coverage of application scenarios and more intelligence." Wu Hequan said, "so we have to look at what capabilities the 6G network should have from the perspective of terminal development."

Wu Hequan said that at present, the form of 6G terminals is likely to be dominated by smart phones and Internet of things modules. Due to the limited requirements of XR, 3D and holographic communications related to metasmology, it is not enough to become the core application that drives the development of 6G at present.

Wu Hequan said: "the smartphone is still the most important application of 6G, and making calls is the most basic, which is no different from 5G, or even 3G or 4G. What needs to be increased may be the ability to access the satellite Internet and the ability to talk at high speed. 6G's high bandwidth will make data transmission faster. But unless it is very large-scale data, users may not know the difference from 5G or even 4G."

"6G will be used in industry to a large extent. Compared with mobile phones, industrial modules need more power, wider channel, more connections, low delay, high precision positioning, high reliability, and end-to-end direct connection. They also want to integrate the enterprise's PLC data acquisition / control functions, edge computing functions, and open programming." Wu Hequan said, "Industrial applications are harsh on ambient temperature, have to resist electromagnetic interference and earthquake resistance, have strict requirements for intrinsic safety and explosion protection, and also be able to work for a long life and avoid maintenance, but because of the individualization of the application, the requirements of each factory are different. it will lead to the high cost of industrial modules, which is very difficult to popularize."

In addition to industrial modules, vehicle terminals can also be regarded as industrial modules. Wu Hequan said that the vehicle terminal has its own characteristics, and the car can be connected directly, but from the point of view of the network, there is no cooperation between the car and the car, and more attention should be paid to low delay, high security and high precision positioning in the vehicle network. this is also a challenge for 6G. Another major application of 6G is the Internet of things. Wu Hequan said that the Internet of things terminal does not require high bandwidth, it requires low power consumption, low delay, low cost, Dalian connection, high density, high reliability, precision positioning, and long life. so another dimension of 6G terminals is how to be lighter, cheaper, simpler, and not more complex.

According to CTOnews.com, the transmission capacity of 6G in the terahertz (THz) band is 1000 times higher than that of 5G, and the network latency is reduced from milliseconds to microseconds.
