Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

Wandering by the river, I saw several festive trees growing about four or five meters high, with the whole tree branches hanging down uniformly. In the branches, but also mixed with a lot of red inflorescences, do not even think about it, it must be a thousand layers of red branches.

Perhaps it is to create a scene of wicker swaying on the banks of the river in South China, where the red layers of hanging branches are always planted. But indeed, when the hanging branches are not in bloom, they are a bit like willows.

Scutellaria angustifolia, which belongs to the genus Artemisia of Myrtle family, is a kind of evergreen shrub or small tree, which has nothing to do with the willow of Salicaceae.

It is quite fastidious about the origin of the name. First of all, the hanging branches do not say, you can read it, and the red thousand layers can be traced back to the white thousand layers of this plant of the same family.

Hanging branches red thousand layers full of tree inflorescence, hanging under the white thousand layers, also known as peeling trees, thousand layers of bark, etc., because the bark is gray-white, thick and soft, peeling off in thin layers, there seem to be many layers of bark. If you skin it manually, you may not be able to peel it to what extent. And because its flowers are white, it is called Baiqianlian.

Red thousand layer is because it has a similar inflorescence, but it is only red, so it is directly called red thousand layer. It's just that the bark of other people is so thick that they can't be peeled, and there are no thousands of layers of bark that you peel off.

The leathery leaves are spirally alternate, like the lanceolate shape of the willow. I don't know if you have found that the scientific names of many plants always have no common name image. In terms of flower type, it is usually called the red bottle brush tree, and in terms of the way the branches and fruits are born, it is also called the string of money willow.

The inflorescence of the red bottle brush tree is very similar to the brush we usually use to brush the bottle. What about the string of willows? do you see if its wooden capsule clings to the branches that hang down like willows? Are these numerous fruits like copper coins? This is not a question, there is no need to answer.

The clusters of fruits on the branches are closely arranged with these woody capsules, usually in a bowl-shaped hemispherical shape, as you can see clearly in the picture above. Its slender branchlets are often pilose and are cleaner when they are old. The leathery leaves above are spirally alternate, like the lanceolate shape of a willow, with a fragrant smell when rubbed with multiple hands.

Flowers bisexual, spikes terminal. Like many plants of the myrtle family, the stamens grow prominently. Its slender filaments are covered with yellow anthers. On the other hand, the number of pistils is not as good as that of stamens. If you don't look carefully, you can hardly see it.

This is mainly because the petals of thousands of layers of hanging branches are degenerated to the bottom of the stamens, which are small and inconspicuous, and only protruding stamens are used to attract pollinators.

In addition to Artemisia angustifolia, there are about 20 species in the world, mainly in Australia. And there are also several other kinds of red layers that are common around us, such as Changhong, and so on.

But in my opinion, it is really like countless bottles of brushes upside down on the branches, with no temperament like hanging branches.
