Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, March 26 (Xinhua)-- thanks to cooperation with AMD, Samsung has developed Xclipse 920 GPU for Exynos 2200 that supports ray tracing technology. Although the effect is not as good as expected, and production capacity is seriously limited, the latest news indicates that they are accelerating the development of a new generation of SoC and custom GPU.

According to Revegnus, Samsung is developing its exclusive GPU with the RDNA architecture and may need AMD's help to form an IP, which we will see in three years. As far as CTOnews.com knows, Samsung relied on ARM's Mali GPU design until Exynos 2100, and all that could change.

Of course, this approach is not new, because both Apple and Qualcomm are doing it, and most of the common chips such as MediaTek Tianji and Heidi Kirin are based on Arm's public version of Mali architecture (the latest flagship model is named Immortalis-G715).

Samsung Exynos 2200 uses Xclipse GPU based on AMD RDNA 2 architecture. Xclipse GPU, which lies between the game console and the mobile GPU, is a very special hybrid GPU. "Xclipse" is a combination of "X" and "eclipse" that represent Exynos.

Based on the high-performance AMD RDNA 2 architecture, Xclipse inherits advanced graphics features such as hardware-accelerated ray tracing (RT) and variable rate shading (VRS) that were previously available only on PC, laptops, and game consoles. In addition, Xclipse GPU is equipped with a variety of technologies, such as the Advanced Multi-IP Governor (AMIGO), which improves overall performance and efficiency.

According to previous rumors, the Tensor G3 used in Google's Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will be based on the Exynos 2300 being developed by Samsung, including the Xclipse 930 GPU, and there are also rumors that Samsung is looking to develop a custom CPU kernel, although the company later denied this claim.
