Zhuzhou Unicom established a special group for 2G network withdrawal in 2021, with a cumulative reduction of nearly one thousand 2G stations. In 2022, Zhuzhou Unicom initially completed the construction of 900MHz base network, and 100% realized the 4G network bottom in the coverage area of 2G base station. In 2023, 900MHz base stations will turn on 5G functions to achieve continuous coverage of 5G networks. The 5G network with faster speed, higher reliability and richer scenarios will bring high-quality network service experience to the majority of users.

In 2022, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology approved China Unicom to re-cultivate the frequency resources in the 904-915/949-960MHz band (CTOnews.com Note: 900MHz band) currently used for 2G / 3G / 4G systems for 5G systems.

According to the relevant person in charge of China Unicom, by the end of 2022, China Unicom's 900MHz low-frequency network will build 170,000 new stations in rural areas, which can quickly improve the rural 5G coverage level and assist the construction of digital villages.

900MHz band has the characteristics of low propagation loss, wide coverage, strong penetration ability and low network deployment cost. It is recognized as the "golden" band of public mobile communication in the world and the main band used by early 2G public mobile communication system.
