Compared with hydrogen storage methods such as high pressure gas state and low temperature liquid state, solid state hydrogen storage has high volume density, good safety and promising development prospect.

According to CCTV news, solid-state hydrogen power generation, a national key research and development project, was first realized in Guangzhou and Kunming at the same time yesterday, which is also the first time that photovoltaic power generation into solid-state hydrogen energy has been applied to the power system in China.

Different from the current gaseous and liquid hydrogen storage methods, solid-state hydrogen storage allows hydrogen atoms to be stored in the voids of the metal by reacting hydrogen with other substances at room temperature (the hydrogen storage pressure is 2-3 MPA). Later, only need to increase the ambient temperature to release hydrogen.

The biggest advantage of solid-state hydrogen storage is that it is simple and efficient, just like being a large reservoir of energy, which can store unstable power generation such as photovoltaic and wind power with high density. In Guangzhou, the technology can also heat up and release high-pressure hydrogen to hydrogenate new energy vehicles.

Zheng Xin, a senior researcher at the Yunnan Electric Power Research Institute of Southern Power Grid, said that the seven cuboid devices that store hydrogen can store 200 cubic meters of hydrogen, and if replaced with the usual three MPA hydrogen storage tank, the volume would be increased 20 times.

Lei Jinyong, general manager of the hydrogen Energy Research Center of the Guangdong Guangzhou Power supply Bureau of Southern Power Grid, said that through the integration of hydrogen production, storage, power generation and hydrogenation, they have realized the flexible conversion between "green electricity" and "green hydrogen". The problems of randomness and strong seasonal fluctuation of new energy power generation have been well solved. The 165kg hydrogen energy stored in the whole project will have a sustainable and stable output of 23 hours and a power supply of 2300 degrees at the peak of power consumption, which will promote the large-scale stable consumption of clean energy and speed up the construction of a new power system.
