Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Wu Yanzu in South China for the delivery of clues! CTOnews.com March 25, AMD officially introduced its next-generation FidelityFX Super Resolution suite, FSR 3, at the game developers conference GDC 2023. FSR 3 adds game frame insertion technology and doubles its performance.

Nvidia DLSS 3 was the first to introduce game frame insertion technology, and AMD brings a similar feature in FSR 3. AMD says the technique generates interpolated frames through Motion Vectors and AMD Fluid Motion.

In terms of performance, AMD FSR 3 is twice as good as FSR 2 at 4K resolution. AMD shows a demonstration of running Unreal engine 5, with the number of frames jumping from 60 FPS (FSR 2) to 112 FPS (FSR 3).

In addition, reducing latency will also be a focus area for AMD FSR 3. AMD said that games currently integrated with FSR 2 will be very easy to migrate to FSR 3. FSR 3 will also be open source under the MIT license agreement.

AMD has not announced the date for the official release of FSR 3, but it is expected to be launched in the first half of 2023. According to the previous version strategy, FSR 3 frame insertion is also expected to apply to non-AMD graphics cards, CTOnews.com friends with old Nvidia graphics cards can look forward to it.

Finally, AMD announced FidelityFX SDK for game developers, which will be launched in the second quarter of 2023. The SDK comes with a native backend for Vulkan and DirectX12, and a custom backend for AMD's Cauldron.

AMD also announced three new FidelityFX effects: FidelityFX depth of field, FidelityFX lens, and FidelityFX blur.
