CTOnews.com March 24, the latest Counterpoint Research report shows that smartphone ODM / IDH shipments fell 5% in 2022 compared with the same period last year.

Counterpoint Research analysts said the year-on-year decline in ODM / IDH shipments in 2022 was caused by cuts in orders from OPPO, Tencent Group, Lenovo Group and Glory. These smartphone OEM have been affected by the economic downturn and have also directly affected their ODM partners. (CTOnews.com Note: ODM generally refers to original design manufacturer, OEM generally refers to original equipment manufacturer, and IDH generally refers to independent design company. )

ODM shipments of smartphones have been increasing, according to the report. For example, after the cooperation between vivo and Huaqin and Longqi, the proportion of ODM shipments increased rapidly in 2022.

The three companies, known as the "Big three", accounted for 76 per cent of the global smartphone ODM / IDH market in 2022, compared with 70 per cent in 2021.

According to reports, Longqi's shipments surged in 2022 as it received large orders from Xiaomi and Samsung, making Longqi number one in terms of shipments. Huaqin has maintained its leading position with its diversified customer portfolio and increased orders from vivo, one of China's largest smartphone OEM brands. Wentai, by contrast, saw only a slight increase in shipments as it continued to view smartphone ODM as part of its overall ODM business.
