Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, March 23 (Xinhua)-- NASA launched a DART mission in September last year, operating a spacecraft weighing 544kg in space 11.3 million kilometers from Earth, crashing head-on into the asteroid Dimorphos at a speed of 20921 kilometers per hour, trying to change its speed.

CTOnews.com learned from the report that six months after the impact, the European Southern Observatory (ESO) looked closely at the debris from the impact mission and found no evidence of water ice (water-ice) in Demofus.

Using the European Southern Observatory's very large Telescope (Very Large Telescope,VLT) Multi-element Spectral probe (MUSE) in Chile, the researchers observed detailed images of debris clouds produced by the double asteroid Redirection Test (DART) spacecraft after colliding with asteroids.

Asteroids are mostly made of rocks and are usually loosely bound together by gravity, but industry scholars believe that some asteroids may contain water ice.

Cyrielle Opitom of the University of Edinburgh, who led the team to observe the collision fragments, did not find oxygen split from the water molecules in the debris for a month before and after the collision. This shows that Demofus is a very dry asteroid.
