On the morning of March 23, Beijing time, it was reported that Meta was carrying out several months of project streamlining and layoffs, which CEO Mark Zuckerberg called a "year of efficiency."

In the meantime, Dan Levy, a senior advertising product executive at Meta, will leave in May, according to an internal announcement.

He is currently vice president of business communications for Meta. On Monday, local time, he posted on Meta's internal social network that he wanted to focus on his family after losing a child with leukemia.

"I made this decision slowly (over the past two years)," he wrote.

A spokesman for Meta confirmed that Levy was leaving and said business communications would remain the company's strategic focus and investment area this year.

Mr Levy did not respond to a request for comment.

Levy has worked at Meta for 14 years. Although his position as head of advertising and commercial products was replaced last year, his business information project has been seen by Zuckerberg as having growth potential.

Previously, Levy was in charge of Meta's advertising and commercial products division, which is now known as the monetization department. Last year, John Hegeman, another executive who had been in charge of advertising products under Levy for a long time, took his place and became Levy's boss in his new position.

The larger department is responsible for how Meta adapts to Apple's 2021 iOS privacy changes, which cut off Meta's access to valuable user data around which Meta's targeted advertising business is costly.

The department tried to establish business functions within the application to make up for "signal loss", while using artificial intelligence technology to improve the accurate positioning of advertising, with mixed success.

In 2014, Meta bought the chat app WhatsApp for $22 billion (CTOnews.com Note: about 151.36 billion yuan), but has yet to generate significant revenue. Executives believe that business communications are another part of the solution because it can eventually monetize the popular WhatsApp.

Zuckerberg has said that this line of business-in which brands pay to use Meta's chat services WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram to sell products and manage customer interactions-could be "the next major pillar" of the company's sales growth.

Levy's departure comes at a time when Meta is in trouble. Last week, the company announced a second round of massive layoffs related to a restructuring plan aimed at eliminating lower-priority projects and "flattening" middle managers.

This week, another vice president of advertising in the sales department, Michelle Klein (Michelle Klein), also announced that he was leaving. Her profile on LinkedIn shows that she leads a marketing department of about 1000 people who led the company to reshape the Meta brand from Facebook.

Meta also confirmed that she was leaving. Mr Klein himself did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
