Beijing, March 23 (Xinhua) Microsoft has integrated ChatGPT, a chat robot, into Bing search, prompting people to turn to a search engine that has rarely been used before, increasing its page visits and making it better able to compete with market leader Google, according to analyst firm Similarweb.

Data as of March 20 this year show that since Microsoft launched its artificial intelligence version of Bing search on February 7, Bing's page visits have increased by 15.8%, while Google's page visits have fallen by nearly 1%.

The 16 per cent increase in Bing page visits is an early sign that Microsoft has taken the lead in the rapid competition with Google for dominance of generative artificial intelligence, thanks to the technology behind ChatGPT. ChatGPT has been popular all over the world since its launch, and many experts call it the "iPhone moment" of artificial intelligence. It also highlights Microsoft's rare opportunity to enter the search market worth more than $120 billion. For decades, Google has dominated the search market, with a market share of more than 80%.

Gil Luria, an analyst at D.A. Davidson & Co, said he expected Bing to grab search market share in the coming months, especially if Google continues to delay integrating generative artificial intelligence into its products. Bing app downloads increased sevenfold, while Bing's global app downloads increased sevenfold after the integration of artificial intelligence, according to Data.ai, an applied research company. Downloads of Google search apps fell by 2% over the same period.

Still, some analysts believe Google is likely to overcome early setbacks to stay ahead. Google replaced Yahoo, then the leader, as the leader of search in the early 2000s.
