A new study by Juniper Research finds that the number of global Internet of things connections using eSIM technology will increase from 2200 million in 2023 to 195 million by 2026, and the popularity of eIM (eSIM Internet of things Manager) in the eSIM platform will drive growth over the next three years.

EIM is a standardized eSIM configuration tool used to standardize the large-scale deployment of Internet of things devices that support eSIM. The report found that existing eSIM configuration solutions, such as SMSR (subscription Management Security routing), can only configure and manage the number of devices through a single user interface, hampering the growth of eSIM in the Internet of things market. ESIM solutions, on the other hand, reduce costs by allowing multiple connections to be deployed simultaneously, increasing the value proposition that requires large-scale deployment of eSIM use cases.

According to the report, only 2% of all eSIM applications will be used in the Internet of things in 2023. But with the increase in the use of eIM tools, the growth of eSIM Internet of things connections will surpass that of consumer areas, including smartphones, over the next three years. By 2026, 6 per cent of the world's eSIM will be applied to the Internet of things.

The report predicts that the number of eSIM-enabled Internet of things devices worldwide will grow by 78% over the next three years. Due to reliance on low-power wide area networks and large-scale deployment requirements, logistics and oil and gas exploration will be the two industries that will benefit the most, accounting for 75 per cent of global eSIM applications by 2026.
