CTOnews.com March 22, Microsoft announced that Windows optional updates (sometimes including new features and major improvements) that were scheduled to be pushed in the third week of each month will be adjusted to the fourth week of each month starting in April.

Microsoft believes that the fourth week of each month will be the best time for users to download and install these Windows 10 or 11 updates.

As before, this update allows your PC device to experience the new features ahead of time, but check for updates manually in Settings > Windows updates > Advanced options > optional updates.

This new update schedule means that optional updates will not arrive until two weeks after the monthly security patch is released, just two weeks after the next mandatory update. To better understand these changes, CTOnews.com briefly talks about the differences between "feature updates", "quality updates" and "Moments updates".

Microsoft provides "quality updates" for supported PC every month, unlike large "feature updates" such as Windows 22H2, where 22H2 updates occur only once a year.

After the launch of Windows 11, Microsoft adopted a different update strategy from Win10, which aims to provide users with "creative updates" on a regular basis, and this frequent feature update is known as "Moment update" within Microsoft, which is also different from large updates such as 22H2.

Chris Morrissey, senior director of Windows and device communications at Microsoft, explained that this change will provide a better experience for all those involved in the Windows system update.

Before that, Microsoft had coined the terms "B", "C" and "D" based on the time of the monthly patch release, with the main difference being the order of time.

Morrissey added: "the optional non-secure preview version has now replaced what we used to call C or D version updates to be consistent with the current process. This move will further simplify the Windows update process.
