CTOnews.com, March 21 (Xinhua)-- sales of passenger electric vehicles in China increased by 87% in 2022 compared with the same period last year, with electric vehicles accounting for 25% of total sales, according to the latest Counterpoint data. In 2022, the share of pure electric vehicles in total electric vehicle sales declined, and the share of plug-in hybrid models increased to 24%.

In the Chinese auto market in 2022, BYD, General Motors and Tesla accounted for the top three market shares, accounting for 29.7%, 8.9% and 8.8% respectively. Soumen Mandal, a senior analyst, said China's electric car market was the most dynamic in the world, with local brands accounting for 81 per cent of the market, with BYD, Wuling, Chery, Changan and Guangzhou Automotive being the leading manufacturers.

In 2022, the top 10 electric vehicle models accounted for nearly 45% of total electric vehicle sales, down 3% from the same period last year. BYD Song overtook Wuling Hongguang MINI to become the best-selling electric car model in the fourth quarter of 2022. Brady Wang, deputy director, expects to sell more than 8 million electric cars in 2023.

CTOnews.com previously reported that global passenger electric vehicle sales rose 53% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2022, with total sales of more than 10.2 million vehicles, an increase of 65% year-on-year. Pure electric vehicles accounted for nearly 72% of all electric vehicle sales.
