CTOnews.com, March 21 (Xinhua)-- Samsung promised to introduce ray tracing technology on the Galaxy S23 series models at the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 launch event to bring players a more immersive gaming experience.

In a recent press release issued by Samsung officials, Jungwoo Kim and Joonyong Park, head of development at Samsung MX Business's System Platform rad Group, shared the challenges of introducing ray tracing to mobile devices and the key results achieved so far.

Ray tracing (a technology that simulates how light is reflected from surfaces and objects, adding more realism to 3D scenes in video games) requires stronger device performance support, and ray tracing technology is slowly moving into mobile devices and is not yet widespread on a large scale.

Joonyong Park says Samsung has been preparing to provide ray tracing technology in its mobile game engine since two years ago. Samsung has partnered with Unreal engine developer Epic Games and a number of game developers to promote the project.

Ray tracing has high requirements for hardware, so Samsung's development goal is to render efficiently, reducing the amount of computation while maintaining a similar level of quality.

There are no games that support ray tracing on the shelves yet, but Samsung has hinted that the Galaxy S23 series will get its first ray-tracing mobile game later this year.
