CTOnews.com TechInsights (formerly Strategy Analytics) reported today that global smartphone shipments (wholesale) and sales (retail) fell 11% and 5%, respectively, year-on-year in February 2023.

TechInsights reports that despite the decline in numbers, the smartphone market has improved since January 2023. The industry total inventory balance/change for the month remains negative, indicating that major OEMs are still in inventory adjustment for the month.

In terms of brand, CTOnews.com learned from TechInsights that Samsung regained the first place in shipments and sales, followed by Apple, Xiaomi, OPPO (including one plus) and vivo. Other vendors in the top 10 include voice, glory, realme, lenovo motorola and huawei.

In addition, TechInsights had expected global smartphone shipments to decline slightly in 2023, down 1% year-on-year, and to grow 3% year-on-year in 2024. Global handset shipments will fall 4% year-on-year in 2023 and rebound to 2% year-on-year growth in 2024.
