CTOnews.com March 20, according to Taiwan's Economic Daily, Hon Hai Chairman Liu Yangwei revealed that he will expand the AR, VR (virtual reality) and MR (mixed reality) businesses by investing in Zuo Zhen, a supplier of AR glasses.

Taiwan media pointed out that Zuo Zhen is one of the companies that have developed AR-related applications, invested in the development of AR smart glasses for more than nine years, and entered the medical market, making AR glasses applications from smart factories, smart retail, into the field of intelligent medicine.

Liu Yangwei pointed out that the global ICT (information and communications industry) market has matured, but AI services, that is, the trend driven by ChatGPT, has created many new applications, which not only boost the demand for cloud servers, but also reduce the cost of meta-universe, and bring data storage opportunities for electric vehicles, self-driving systems, and so on.

According to reports, in the meta-universe field, Hon Hai, in addition to assisting customers in developing products, has also initially completed the relevant layout, including investment in metasonic application software company XRSPACE, high-end VR/MR Finnish company Varjo, and Zuozhen, which focuses on AR glasses.

In addition, Liu Yangwei said that the application of general artificial intelligence and generative AI will reduce the cost of generating meta-universe content, accelerate the development of meta-universe, and allow more brand customers of Hon Hai to launch more VR, MR and AR products. Hon Hai will strengthen its content in AR glasses this year and should be able to grasp the growth opportunities brought about by new applications and technologies.

Financial data show that Hon Hai's cumulative revenue in the first two months of this year was NT $1.0624 trillion (CTOnews.com note: about 239.04 billion yuan), an increase of 17.94% year-on-year and a record high for the same period in the previous year.
