According to CTOnews.com news on March 20, CTOnews.com learned from Tencent officials that today Tencent released the "big data report on Tencent R & D in 2022", a report produced by the Tencent Technical Committee, which reveals important data on R & D investment, R & D efficiency and open source collaboration of Tencent in 2022.

According to the report, Tencent's internal R & D staff accounted for 74% in 2022, which means that an average of three out of every four Tencent employees are engaged in R & D work.

According to the report, last year, Tencent added more than 7000 R & D projects, an increase of 19.8 percent over 2021, 2.94 billion new lines of code, 210000 new code bases, and 127,000 code submissions per day.

In addition to the number of R & D projects, code quality is also the focus of Tencent's research and development. In 2022, Tencent completed a total of 2.62 million code reviews, an increase of 21.8% over 2021, and the code review participation rate reached 74.6%. The total time of code review reached 460000 hours, the per capita code review time was 12.6 hours, and the number of thousands of comments on code review was 15.3, an increase of 75.4% over the same period last year.

In addition, with the rapid development of cloud computing and other technologies, Go continues to be the most popular programming language in Tencent. It is worth noting that the use of new generation programming languages such as Kotlin, Swift and Rust is growing rapidly because of its security, convenience, speed, portability and other features.

The report also shows that as of December 2022, Tencent had disclosed more than 62000 patent applications and granted more than 30,000 patents in major countries and regions around the world.

In terms of basic software development, Tencent has the full-link self-research capability of the server operating system, and has initiated and deeply participated in the open source community of the OpenCloudOS operating system. As the "crown jewel" in the field of basic software, the self-research rate of Tencent Cloud database TDSQL core code has reached 100%, ranking first in China in terms of OLTP transactions and lightweight transaction use cases, serving seven of the top 10 domestic banks.

In terms of cutting-edge scientific and technological innovation, Tencent has released three self-developed chips for AI reasoning, video processing and high-performance network scenarios, and promotes the large-scale application of self-developed chips in Tencent's actual business scenarios.
