Currently, Intel has an Eagle Stream micro-architecture platform, including the existing Sapphire Rapids-SP and the upcoming Emerald Rapids-SP CPU, which are based on LGA 4677 sockets.

For the next generation of Xeon chips, Intel will adopt the new Mountain Stream and Birch Stream platforms, which are designed for high-end Xeon chips such as Granite Rapids-AP and Siera Forest AP. Let's first look at the capabilities of the reference Avenue City platform.

The Avenue City reference motherboard can be 16.7 x 20 inches in size, has 20 PCB layers, contains two LGA 7529 slots, supports Granite Rapids and Sierra Forest-AP CPU, and supports 500W TDP.

The platform has 24 DDR5 DIMM and supports 12-channel memory, 6 PCIe Gen5 x16 links (Gen5 / CXL), and 6x24 UPI links.

It is reported that Granite Rapids-AP CPU will provide up to 128 cores and 256 threads and will be in HBM style, as shown in the ES / project sample.

When it comes to memory, these 24 DDR5 DIMM slots can meet the 6400 Mbps speed of 1DPC and the speed of 8000 Mbps in MCR.

The Avenue City reference platform also includes two PCIe x2 M.2 slots, a PCIe x2 M.2 (2280) module, and a PCIe x1 LOM (Springville), and provides a large number of I / O interfaces, such as rear USB 3.0 + USB 2.0, serial ports (Type-C), Mini DP, gigabit network ports, RunBCM modules (AST2600), and TPM 2.0, SPI TOM modules and PFR 4.0, etc.

Intel also lists the applicable chassis for this motherboard, one is the 2S open chassis standard EGS POK, and the other is the 2S 4U enclosed chassis (Rich AIC).

As far as known information is concerned, Avenue City is part of the Birch Stream platform, not the Mountain Stream platform. In fact, CTOnews.com doesn't know much about the Mountain Stream platform, but it is certain that the Granite Rapids will be a full-scale core product, hopefully using Intel 4 technology and the latest Redwood Cove kernel, while the Sierra Forest is an all-E-core product designed primarily for computing / efficiency density kernel loads to compete with the AMD Bergamo series (Zen 4C).

According to Intel's plan, Granite Rapids Xeon CPU is expected to be launched at the end of next year, and Sierra Forest is expected to be launched at the same time, but considering Intel's frequent delays, we are not sure.
