March 20 news, according to foreign media reports, the decline in demand for memory chips caused by the decline in demand for consumer electronics has affected Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, two major memory chip manufacturers in South Korea, which reported operating losses in the fourth quarter of last year and led to a 45% drop in operating profit for the whole year compared with the same period last year.

Under the background that the global demand for memory chips is still declining and has not yet rebounded, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, the two major memory chip manufacturers, are still facing a lot of performance pressure.

Relevant media also pointed out in the latest report that South Korean memory chip manufacturers may have a rare operating loss when there is no end to the decline in global demand for memory chips.

If there is an operating loss in the first quarter of this year, SK Hynix will lose money for two consecutive quarters, with an operating profit of 1.66 trillion won (currently about 8.732 billion yuan) in the third quarter of last year, but an operating loss of nearly 2 trillion won (currently about 10.52 billion yuan) in the fourth quarter.

SK Hynix's operating profit began to decline in the third quarter of last year, and in the second quarter of last year, its operating profit was close to 4.2 trillion won (currently about 22.092 billion yuan), up 56% from a year earlier and 47% from a month earlier. But in the third quarter, operating profit fell 60% year-on-year and 61% month-on-month. The following quarter worsened further, with an operating loss.

Revenue from Samsung's electronic storage business also declined year-on-year in the third and fourth quarters of last year, including 15.23 trillion won (currently about 80.11 billion yuan) in the third quarter, down 27% from the same period last year and 28% from the previous quarter. 12.14 trillion won (currently about 63.856 billion yuan) in the fourth quarter, down 38% from the same period last year and 20% from the previous quarter. Full-year revenue of 68.53 trillion won (currently about 360.468 billion yuan) was also down 6 per cent from a year earlier.
