CTOnews.com learned from CNNC officials that Longjing-1 was launched on July 25, 2020 with a long March 4B carrier rocket and entered the scheduled orbit to carry out in-orbit flight verification and long-term stay test. This is the first time that China has sent an independently developed neutron spectrometer into space, which indicates that China's space neutron measurement has entered a new stage of in-orbit calibration test, and provides an important means for independently obtaining and mastering the key data of space neutron radiation. it provides an important support for the development of manned spaceflight, deep space exploration and lunar exploration in China.
According to reports, with the support of the long-term basic research project of the Atomic Energy Institute, the neutron metrology and testing research team of the Comprehensive Institute of Nuclear Technology, together with the 100MeV cyclotron team and the project team of the Institute of Nuclear Physics, carried out the research on the quasi-monoenergetic neutron radiation field of 70MeV-100MeV, which broke through many key technologies such as quasi-monoenergetic neutron target station, time-of-flight neutron spectrum measurement of double scintillators and absolute measurement of neutron Fluence rate. The energy upper limit of monoenergetic neutron reference radiation field in China is extended to 100MeV.
With the help of the radiation field, the project team carried out the radiation shielding performance test of the astronaut extravehicular suit for the first time in China, providing basic data for radiation dose assessment of astronaut extravehicular activities, and providing beam services for many units such as astronaut training centers. At the same time, the radiation field effectively solves the problem of ground calibration of "Longjing-1" neutron spectrometer, and can be more applied to the calibration of space neutron detector or the test of material irradiation performance.
