Thank you, Mr. Air, a netizen of CTOnews.com, for your clue delivery! CTOnews.com, March 19, according to the Taiwan media Economic Daily, TSMC's Arizona plant is expected to produce 4nm in 2024. Chen Ruowen, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Qualcomm, said that Qualcomm will be the first customers of TSMC's American plant 4nm.

Qualcomm held the opening ceremony of the Hsinchu Building on March 17. Hou Yongqing, senior deputy general manager of TSMC Eurasia Business and Research and Development, attended the industry summit held by Qualcomm to demonstrate the close relationship between the two sides.

With regard to the media's concern about whether Qualcomm is evaluating production at TSMC's Arizona plant, Chen Ruowen said that Qualcomm has long been evaluating that Qualcomm will be the first customers of TSMC's 4nm production process in the United States.

In December, TSMC tripled its planned investment in the Arizona chip plant, which began construction at the end of last year, to $40 billion (currently about 275.6 billion yuan), according to CTOnews.com. The plant, one of the largest overseas investments in US history, will start production in 2026 using advanced 3nm technology.

However, Digitimes quoted sources as saying that judging from the current progress of engineering and equipment installation, TSMC's new wafer plant in the United States is unlikely to start full production in 2024 and may be delayed to 2025.

According to a semiconductor equipment supply chain source, the overall construction and equipment installation of TSMC's new wafer plant in Arizona has been delayed, while foundry must also address severe labor shortages, soaring costs, and emerging education and adaptation problems involving foreign employees.
