CTOnews.com There has been debate over which service is better between PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass, but Sony admitted in a statement to the UK Competition and Marketing Authority that Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass is far ahead of Sony PS+ in terms of game subscription services.

While the new PS Plus subscription is touted as Sony's competitor to Xbox Game Pass, the platform's owners themselves believe it has a long way to go. Of course, both subscription services currently offer players a variety of quality games, but Sony has admitted that it will not add its masterpieces to the PS+ service on the first day of launch.

Sony said in a statement that "when it comes to MGS (game subscription service), there is no doubt that Game Pass is far ahead of PlayStation Plus in market share." Of course, Sony's main purpose in saying this sentence is to prove that Microsoft will raise prices after acquiring Activision Blizzard, at least the company has incentives to raise prices, which is a typical case of retreat.

Sony has often been criticized by netizens for refusing to accept Microsoft's 10-year agreement.

Sony said that even if they accepted the offer to keep Call of Duty on PS5 and PS4 for the next 10 years, Microsoft would still have ways to attract gamers to buy Xbox, such as making future Call of Duty games exclusive to Xbox Game Pass, which would give gamers a reason to choose XGP.

In short, Sony is trying to prove that Microsoft is the real market leader and prevents fair competition. The company hinted to CMA that if the company acquired Activision Blizzard, as a strong competitor of the company, they might retaliate by:

Increase the pricing of Call of Duty on PlayStation (CTOnews.com Note: The current standard version is HK$549, the Treasury version is HK$789, but the PS version is discounted);

Reduce the quality and performance of Call of Duty on PlayStation compared to Xbox;

Limiting, suppressing, or not focusing on the multiplayer experience on the PlayStation;

Call of Duty is available only on Game Pass, or on PlayStation Plus at a commercially unfeasible premium, making it a de facto exclusive game.

Sony acknowledged this in its recent response to CMA, while Microsoft responded to the investigation into its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The company said Sony's stance was "self-serving behavior to maintain its market dominance," and Microsoft also claimed CMA made "fundamental and obvious errors" in its impact calculations.

CMA also released the opinions of six different gaming companies on Microsoft's acquisition of Blizzard, all of which believe the deal should go ahead. One company even said it could create a level playing field between Xbox and PlayStation where a "much-needed" presence would emerge.
