CTOnews.com, March 17, Mitsubishi Electric announced that it will invest about 100 billion yen (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 5.19 billion yuan) to build an 8-inch SiC wafer plant in Kikuchi City, Kumamoto Prefecture and enhance related production facilities to increase the production of silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductors.

Japanese media pointed out that by 2026, Mitsubishi Electric SiC wafer production capacity will be expanded to about five times the level of 2022. In the five years from 2021 to 2025, Mitsubishi Electric will invest about 260 billion yen in equipment in the power semiconductor industry (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 13.494 billion yuan), which will be 100% higher than the original planned value (about 130 billion yen).

Among them, Mitsubishi Electric will invest 10 billion yen (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 519 million yuan) in the new plant in Fukuoka City, which aims to integrate existing business in Fukuoka region.
