It is the best-selling BMW M model launched by BMW in 2022. BMW M GmbH's pure electric performance model will also be included in the new BMW 5-series sedan lineup.

According to Zipse, the BMW i5 will be the brand's first electric 5-series sedan, giving the brand a "really unique selling point". According to reports, the i5 is scheduled to go on sale in October, followed by a "tour" around the world in 2024, and BMW said it would continue to expand its pure electric lineup.

Production of the new car is expected to begin in the next few months at the Dingolfen plant south of Balavia, BMW's largest manufacturing plant in Europe. BMW said the i5 would maintain its traditional position between the company's medium-sized sedan 3 series and luxury sedan 7 series.

Although no pricing was announced, BMW hinted that the brand would bring a "low-cost electric car" to its lineup, but several competitors, including Mercedes-Benz, have apparently abandoned low-cost models.

The new 5-Series is "more dynamic and comfortable than ever" and features a new iDrive 8.5 in-car system, as well as a curved display on the BMW iX electric SUV, as well as new digital services.

In addition, BMW confirmed that the i5 will usher in a high-performance M version and a station wagon version.
