Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com March 16, International data Corporation (IDC) released a report today that global wearable device shipments fell 18.9% year-on-year to about 140 million units in the fourth quarter of 2022.

The report points out that under the severe macroeconomic situation, shipments in 2022 fell 7.7% compared with 2021, which is difficult to compare with the strong performance in 2021, which is the first year of decline in the category. Despite the economic downturn, overall shipments reached 490 million units in 2022, much higher than in 2020 and 2019.

CTOnews.com learned from the IDC report that shipments of wearables in the Asia-Pacific region (excluding Japan and China), the Middle East and Africa all declined year-on-year in 2022. Like many emerging markets, these regions still lack market penetration but face possible extreme inflation.

Among all kinds of products, smartwatches grew by 9.4% in 2022, and Apple topped the list with sales of nearly 150 million units, an all-time high. Huawei and Samsung are not far behind, ranking second and third in the smartwatch market, while India's Nexxbase and Fire-Boltt rank in the top five with price-oriented products sold in India. The largest category of wearable devices, earwear devices, fell by nearly 10% year-on-year, while shipments of the third largest category, wrist wearable devices, continued to decline due to competition from smartwatches.
