After the completion of the project, wind power, photovoltaic, thermal power and energy storage capacity can be jointly transmitted from Gansu Province to Shandong Province every year.

According to reports, the DC line of the project starts from Longdong Converter Station, Xifeng District, Qingyang City, Gansu Province, and ends at Taian West Converter Station, Dongping County, Taian City, Shandong Province. Through Qingyang City, Gansu Province, Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province, Linfen City, Shanxi Province and Changzhi City, Handan City, Hebei Province, Shandong (Liaocheng City, Jinan City, Tai'an City), a total of 5 provinces, 8 prefecture-level cities, 30 districts and counties.

Officials say the project will build two converter stations in Qingyang, Gansu Province and Tai'an, Shandong Province, with a transmission capacity of 8 million kilowatts and an investment of 20.2 billion yuan, which will be completed and put into operation in January 2025.

In addition, another major power grid project in China, the Yumen pumped storage power station, is also under construction today. The power station is currently the highest pumped storage power station in China. It is the first time to set up a power plant on the ground and build 4 new 300000 kilowatt reversible generating units. After the completion of the project, it will effectively enhance the peak supply capacity of Gansu power grid, and play an important role in regulating and ensuring the reliable operation of northwest power grid and the stable transmission of new energy power in Gansu.

According to the results of the power balance calculated by the State Grid Corporation, Shandong Province urgently needs to alleviate the load gap to a large extent by 2025.

To improve the overall safe and stable operation level and power supply reliability of the system, State Grid Co., Ltd. plans to build Longdong-Shandong ±800kV UHVDC transmission project.
