Beijing, March 16 (Xinhua) Google announced on its website on Wednesday that it has stopped selling enterprise version of Google Glass and will stop software support in September this year. The move marks the end of the Google Glass product line, one of the first and one of the most recognized smart glasses by large technology companies.

Google largely stopped selling Google Glass to consumers in 2015 and has been focused on how to make the glasses useful to companies and developers since then, but even those efforts have come to an end. Google spokesman Patrick Siebold (Patrick Seybold) said the company no longer sells Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 enterprise version. Google will end its support for the AR glasses on Sept. 15, according to a help document.

Google said Glass will still be available after September 15, but it does not plan to release any software updates. The Google-supported cut-off will also be extended to the built-in Meet app and maintenance service for glasses. "the app may stop working at any time after September 15, 2023." Google's support page warns. However, before this deadline, "Google will continue to replace equipment under the existing process."

In 2013, Google sold Glass to developers and early adopters for the first time for $1500 (CTOnews.com Note: about 10350 yuan), which quickly captured the imagination of technology enthusiasts. However, despite the support of Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the Google Glass project has never become a mainstream product, and the built-in camera has sparked a privacy debate. In 2017, Google decided to position its products as corporate tools, such as training workers on the factory floor. Google released Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 in 2019 for $999 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 6893 yuan).
