CTOnews.com, March 15, according to a report in Taiwan's Economic Daily, Xu Xiulan, chairman of Global Wafer, the world's third largest semiconductor silicon wafer fab, said at a legal meeting yesterday that due to the impact of industrial inventory adjustment, some customers did delay the delivery schedule of long contracts for about one or two months, and it is expected that they will gradually recover in the second half of the year.

Xu Xiulan reiterated that the new Global Crystal plant in the United States will be completed in July 2024 and is expected to start production in the first quarter of 2025.

Judging from the recent situation of Global Crystal, Xu Xiulan said frankly that due to the influence of inventory adjustment, some customers did postpone the delivery schedule of about one to two months. At this stage, only the capacity utilization of Global Crystal 8-inch and 12-inch silicon wafer production lines is still fully loaded, and adjust the product application projects needed by production customers. It is expected that the annual revenue will be better than last year.

Xu Xiulan said in France that the amount of prepayments received by the company has increased from $1.2 billion at the end of the third quarter of last year to $1.29 billion in the fourth quarter of last year (currently about 8.875 billion yuan), the highest in history.

In terms of semiconductor inventory, Global Crystal said demand related to the outbreak appeared to have disappeared and supply chain disruptions were expected to improve significantly this year. The demand for consumer electronics slows down, resulting in a structural oversupply, while analog components and microcontrollers (MCU) used in automotive and industrial electronics continue to be in short supply.
