The Banana Pi BPI-R3 Mini is equipped with MediaTek MT7986 chip, has two 2.5 GbE Ethernet ports and supports WiFi 6, but does not support video output. Users can use the development board as a router, wireless repeater, gateway, or firewall, but it may not be the best choice for general-purpose computers.

The new board is compatible with the larger BPI-R3 Router Board software, where Banana Pi offers OpenWrt 21.02, Ubuntu 22.04 and Debian 10 Universe 11 images. For reference, the Banana Pi BPI-R3 board sells for about $100 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about RMB688), and the Banana Pi BPI-R3 Mini router board is expected to be cheaper, possibly between $70 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about RMB482) to $80 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about RMB550).
