When the user shoots the moon, the AI-based scene optimization technology will identify the moon as the main subject and synthesize multiple frames, and then AI will enhance the image quality and color detail. In other words, Samsung denied any suggestion that Galaxy S23 Ultra used AI-based image overlay technology to enhance the details of moon photos. The company says users can turn off AI-based scene optimization in camera settings, which will disable detail enhancement of photos taken by users.

There is no conclusive evidence to prove whether Samsung used AI-based image overlay technology for moon photos. However, CTOnews.com noted that another photographer, Fahim Al Mahmud Ashik, showed how to use any modern high-end phone, including the Apple iPhone 14 Pro and one plus 11, to take clearly visible pictures of the moon. The photographer released a full video showing how he took the pictures, which means that many brands are forging pictures of the moon, or none of them.
