CTOnews.com March 15 news, Microsoft today released Windows 11 22H2 system patch update KB5023706 (OS Build 22621.1413), bringing some new features and improvements. This update addresses the security issues of the Windows operating system.

This security update includes improvements as part of the update KB5022913 (released February 28, 2023). When installing this KB:

This update implements the third phase of distributed component object Model (DCOM) enhancement. See KB5004442. After you install this update, users cannot use the registry key to close the changes.

This update addresses issues affecting computer accounts and Active Directory. The join fails when you re-use an existing computer account to join the Active Directory domain. This occurs on devices with Windows updates installed on or after October 11, 2022. The error message is Error 0xaac (2732): NERR_AccountReuseBlockedByPolicy:'An account with the same name exists in Active Directory. Re-using the account was blocked by security policy.' Windows 11 Service Stack Update-22621.1344

This update improves the quality of the service stack, which is the component that installs the Windows update. Service stack updates (SSU) ensure that users have a strong and reliable service stack so that devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

The following are known issues:

Problem 1: it applies to IT administrators. Using preconfigured packages on Windows 11 version 22H2 (also known as Windows 11 2022 update) may not work as expected. Windows may only be partially configured, and the out-of-the-box experience may not be completed or may restart unexpectedly. The configuration package is a .PPKG file that helps configure new devices for use in an enterprise or school network. Pre-packages applied during initial setup are most likely to be affected by this issue.

Note: provisioning Windows devices using Windows Autopilot is not affected by this issue. Windows devices that consumers use in their homes or small offices are less likely to be affected by this problem.

Solution: this will prevent this problem if users can configure Windows devices before upgrading to Windows version 11 22H2. Microsoft is currently investigating and will provide updates in the upcoming release.

Question 2: applicable to IT administrators. Copying large multi-gigabyte (GB) files on Windows version 11 22H2 may take longer than expected to complete. Users are more likely to experience this problem when copying files from a network share to the Windows 11 version of 22H2 through a server message block (SMB), but local file replication may also be affected. Windows devices that consumers use in their homes or small offices are less likely to be affected by this problem.

Solution: to alleviate this problem, users can take advantage of a file copy tool that does not use a cache manager (buffer I / O). This can be done by using the built-in command line tools listed below:

Xcopy\ someserver\ someshare c:\ somefolder / J Microsoft is working on a solution and will provide updates in the upcoming release.

Question 3: applicable to IT administrators. Some Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) servers may not provide updates released on or after February 14, 2023 to the Windows 11 version of 22H2. Updates will be downloaded to the WSUS server, but may not be further delivered to the client device. The WSUS servers affected are only those running Windows Server 2022 that have been upgraded from Windows Server 2016 or Windows Server 2019. This issue is caused by the accidental removal of the required Unified Update platform (UUP) MIME type during an upgrade from a previous version of the Windows server to Windows Server 2022. This issue may affect security or feature updates for Windows version 11 22H2. Microsoft Configuration Manager is not affected by this issue.

Solution: to alleviate this problem, see adding file types locally for the unified update platform.

Microsoft is working on a solution and will provide updates in the upcoming release.

Question 4: applicable to all users. After you install this update or later, Windows devices with some third-party UI custom applications may fail to start. These third-party applications can cause errors in explorer.exe that can be repeated multiple times in a loop. It is known that the affected third-party UI custom applications are ExplorerPatcher and StartAllBack. These types of applications typically implement their customization using unsupported methods, so they can produce unexpected results on Windows devices.

Solution: Microsoft recommends that you uninstall any third-party UI custom applications before installing this or subsequent updates to prevent this problem. If the user's Windows device has already encountered this problem, you may need to contact the customer support of the application developer who is in use. If you are using StartAllBack, you can prevent this problem by updating to the latest version (v3.5.6 or later).
