Zuckerberg's layoff letter mentioned meta-universe only twice, after Meta focused on artificial intelligence in its fourth-quarter and full-year results. Meta executives mentioned it six times in a conference call with Wall Street analysts, but did not mention meta-universe. Meta is already using artificial intelligence to improve content targeting to users and, more importantly, its massive advertising business, which was hit by Apple's privacy changes last year and is still recovering.

Zuckerberg wrote on Tuesday that building metasmos was "still at the heart of defining the future of social connections," and quickly shifted the conversation to the growth of users in the Meta app family, including Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
