CTOnews.com, March 14 (Xinhua)-- Meta, the parent company of Facebook, said on Tuesday that it would cut 10000 jobs, just four months after the last 11000 layoffs. This is the first major technology company to announce a second round of large-scale layoffs.

"We expect to reduce the team size by about 10000 people and close about 5000 unhired positions," Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a message to employees.

Mr Zuckerberg said the layoffs were part of a broader restructuring in which the company would flatten its organizational structure, eliminate lower-priority projects and reduce hiring rates. The news sent Meta's shares up 2 per cent in pre-market trading.

It was previously reported that the layoffs will affect the wearable equipment team of Reality Labs hardware and metaverse.

Zuckerberg had previously said he would turn 2023 into a "year of efficiency" and promised to cut spending by $5 billion to $89 billion to $95 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 610.54 billion to 651.7 billion yuan).
