According to reports, the HEPS linear accelerator is a room temperature linear accelerator, about 49 meters long, which is used to generate electrons and accelerate electrons to 500MeV. It is the source of electrons and the first-stage accelerator, which is composed of end electron guns, bunching units, acceleration structures, microwave power sources, and other equipment.

HEPS is the core device for the joint construction of Huairou Science City between the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Beijing. The project was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission and undertaken by the Institute of High Energy of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Construction began in June 2019 with a construction period of 6.5 years. After completion, HEPS will be one of the brightest fourth-generation synchrotron radiation light sources in the world, and it will also be the first high-energy synchrotron radiation light source in China, which will complement the existing light sources in China, and is of great significance to enhance China's national development strategy and the original innovation capability in the frontier basic science and high-tech fields. A few days ago, the HEPS intensifier was fully connected, the storage ring tunnel equipment was started and installed, and the front end of the beamline station was started for trial installation, and HEPS entered the installation stage of scientific research equipment in an all-round way.
