CTOnews.com March 14 news, South Korea's Ministry of Science and Technology today released its February ICT export statistics. It is reported that South Korea's ICT (information and communication technology) exports last month were only 12.82 billion US dollars (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 87.945 billion yuan), down 32.0% from the same period last year, which has been the eighth consecutive month of continuous decline in ICT exports.

By project, exports of semiconductors fell by 41.5%, monitors by 42.2%, and exports of computers and peripherals by 58.6%. From a regional perspective, China's exports fell by 39.4%, Vietnam by 31.7%, the United States by 20.7%, the European Union by 23.5% and Japan by 4.8%.

Exports of memory semiconductors fell 53.9 per cent to $2.92 billion after falling 57.3 per cent in January as shipments and unit prices fell as a result of the downturn in the semiconductor industry, officials said. In addition, exports of OLED and LCD displays remain depressed. OLED exports fell by 39.3%. Art LCD exports fell by 43.0%.

Affected by strong exports of mobile phone parts to China and other factors, South Korean parts exports increased by 4.8%, but finished product exports fell 36.2% from the same period last year.

According to reports, South Korean system semiconductor exports fell in January for the first time in 33 months, to 2.69 billion US dollars last month, down 25.5 per cent from a year earlier.

However, South Korea imported $11 billion into the ICT sector last month, and the trade balance in the ICT sector continued to make a profit of $1.82 billion. In addition, the surplus widened from the previous month to only $890 million. With all exports declining, the share of ICT exports in all industries has fallen to 25.6 per cent.
