According to AMD's naming, the "4" in the processor name stands for Zen4 architecture, while the "U" confirms that this is a low power (15-28W) processor for thin and light laptops.

As you can see from Geekbench, this processor has been benchmarked on AMD's reference and verification platform called "Mayan-PHX", but this is clearly not a retail product, and we expect the Ryzen 7040U series to have to wait a while before it is officially released.

Geekbench confirmed that Ryzen 5 7640U is a 6-core 12-threaded CPU with 6 MB of L2 cache and 16 MB of L3 cache, with a base frequency of 3.5 GHz and can be upgraded to 4.89 GHz.

In addition, the mobile APU is equipped with an 8CU Radeon 760M core display, which may be a TDP and a lower frequency 7640H (S).

Since we don't know how much memory the test platform uses, here's a brief rundown of its scores, comparing it to other processors for reference only. Of course, AMD R5 7640U is definitely faster than its predecessor 6600U anyway.

This processor has an average single-core performance improvement of about 25% compared to the previous generation, while multi-core performance has improved by 60%(R5 6600U listed in Geekbench has an average single-core score of about 1600 points and multi-core score of about 5500 points). Even when compared to the R5 6600U, which has the highest multi-core performance release CTOnews.com can find, this processor has a 22% lead.
