CTOnews.com March 14 news, according to the latest report released by market research agency Canalys, the domestic PC market (including desktops, notebooks and workstations) fell 26% in the fourth quarter of 2022 compared with the same period last year.

Shipments of desktops (including desktop workstations) fell by 3.7 million, down 34 per cent year-on-year, while notebook shipments (including mobile workstations) fell 39 per cent to 8.5 million, the report said.

Domestic shipments of desktop and notebook devices in 2022 were driven by the introduction of new devices by major suppliers, and shipments of tablet computers increased to 7.5 million units in the fourth quarter, an increase of 39 per cent year-on-year.

PC market shipments for the whole of 2022 were 48.5 million units, down 15 per cent from 2021. Canalys estimates that shipments of tablets benefited from the surge in demand to 24 million units, up 6 per cent from a year earlier.

Domestic tablet device shipments in the fourth quarter of 2022

Among the domestic tablet device shipments in 2022, Apple shipped 2.65 million units in the fourth quarter of 2022, an increase of 72.9% over the same period last year. The market accounted for 35.4%, compared with 28.4% in the fourth quarter of 2021, an increase of 7 percentage points. The growth of the Glory tablet was the most obvious, with shipments increasing to 842000 units from 400000 last year, an increase of 110.3% over the same period last year.

Despite the sharp market adjustment, shipments of laptops (including mobile workstations) and tablets are still higher than before the outbreak, 8 per cent and 22 per cent higher than in 2019, respectively.

As more and more smartphone suppliers join the game, the supplier landscape in the laptop and tablet market remains unstable. We expect more competition in Android tablets as these new entrants aggressively seize the market and pave the way for their connectors ecosystem strategy.
