Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Wu Yanzu in South China for the delivery of clues! CTOnews.com March 13 news, recently, some users reported that after installing Windows 11 on computers that do not meet the system requirements, a watermark prompt appeared on the desktop and settings menu, indicating "the system requirements are not met, please go to the settings to learn more". It is reported that this is a feature introduced by Microsoft after the Windows 11 update released in February 2023.
Back in February last year, Microsoft began testing watermark prompts in the setup menu and extended it to desktops of devices that did not meet the system requirements in the Build 22000.588 version a month later, which was released on Beta and Release Preview channels.
Although this feature was removed in the final version of Windows 11 2022 update, Microsoft seems to be pushing watermark prompts to different users again this year. This month, many users running Windows 11 on devices that do not meet the system requirements reported that they saw a watermark prompt. As in last year's test, the watermark prompt appears on the settings menu and on the device desktop.
This is also confirmed by Microsoft's update log for KB5017130 optional updates released on February 15, which instructs administrators on how to manage "system requirements are not met" information within the organization.
"users within your organization may notice the following information (watermark) displayed on the desktop or settings: the system requirements are not met, please go to the settings to learn more." The post reads. "this problem occurs when the device hardware does not meet the minimum system requirements. As an administrator, you may want to turn off the 'system requirements not met' message.... to do this, use the Group Policy Editor or the device management solution."
Interestingly, there are also some users who say that even devices that meet the minimum requirements for Windows 11 upgrades will be prompted by watermarks. In response, different independent consultants in the Microsoft community explained that this could be caused by other problems, while others said it could be a bug, "it could just be a caching issue or something, if some of the configurations in BIOS have been changed." Said a consultant.
Fortunately, the affected users can delete the settings menu and the watermark on the desktop through the registry. The operation method attached to CTOnews.com is as follows:
First, open the Registry Editor using the search bar of the taskbar and click Yes at the user account Control (User Account Control) prompt to open the Registry Editor with administrator privileges.
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Control Panel / UnsupportedHardwareNotificationCache.
Right-click on the SV2 DWORD in the right pane and select modify.
Set the value data to 0.
Click OK and restart the device.
