Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Ryan7WU for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, March 13 (Xinhua)-- Apple will launch the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro phones this fall and will use the USB-C interface in order to comply with new EU laws, which require manufacturers to adopt the USB-C open standard for their devices.

But there are rumors that Apple may implement its MFi (Made For iPhone) certification program for USB-C accessories to grade charging wires and accessories. Since 2012, a microcircuit in Apple's device has allowed MFi accessories to maximize their potential for charging and data transfer, and uncertified third-party products may not be compatible with iPhone or work properly.

However, the Laptopmag investigation found that such a practice could cause Apple to violate EU law, with one EU research document saying: "the maximum power should represent the sum of the power required for radio equipment to maintain operation and the power required to reach maximum charging speed." It is reported that the European Union stipulates that mobile phones and similar radio equipment should be equipped with USB Type-C Receptacle converters if they can be charged through wired charging, and if they also need to be charged at a voltage, current or power higher than 5 volts or 3 amperes or 15 watts, they should use the USB Power Delivery charging communication protocol.

In addition, in a press release issued in October last year, the EU wrote: "the unified fast charging technology will help prevent different manufacturers from unreasonably limiting the charging speed. It also helps to ensure that any charger compatible with the device has the same charging speed."

Therefore, if Apple decides to impose restrictions on USB-C accessories in the form of MFi, it may be considered illegal by the European Union.

However, CTOnews.com notes that EU legislation does not mention data transmission, so Apple may also make a fuss in this regard.
