As an important part of the Yangtze River Delta railway network, the Shanghai-Nanjing high-speed railway along the Yangtze River is designed at a speed of 350km / h, with a total length of 278.53 km. Construction will begin in October 2018.

The route starts from Nanjing South Railway Station in the west, through Nanjing Jiangning District, Qinhuai District, Zhenjiang Jurong City, Changzhou Jintan, Wujin, Jingkai District, Wuxi Jiangyin City, Suzhou Zhangjiagang, Changshu, Taicang City, and finally to Taicang Station. The construction of this railway is of great significance for further shortening the time and space distance between the economically developed counties and cities in southern Jiangsu and Shanghai and Nanjing, improving the regional rapid railway network and promoting the economic and social development of the south along the Yangtze River.
