CTOnews.com March 13 news, TrendForce Jibang Consulting released a report today that the foundry output of the top 10 wafers in the fourth quarter of 2022 experienced the first recession in 14 quarters, with a month-on-month decline of 4.7%, or about $33.53 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 232.698 billion yuan), and is expected to decline even more in the first quarter of 2023 in the face of uncertainty in the traditional off-season and the general environment.

The report points out that the sluggish peak season and customer inventory correction continue to affect the revenue performance of various businesses in the fourth quarter:

TSMC's fourth-quarter revenue fell 1.0% month-on-month to about $19.96 billion (currently about 138.522 billion yuan), while its market share rose to nearly 60%, despite demand for new iPhone and Android aircraft.

Samsung (Samsung) has some of the momentum of pulling new iPhone and Android parts, slightly offsetting the gap between customer correction and the loss of advanced process orders, with fourth-quarter revenue down about 3.5% from the previous quarter to $5.39 billion (currently about 37.407 billion yuan).

UMC's capacity utilisation fell in the fourth quarter as well as wafer shipments, with revenue of about $2.17 billion (currently about 15.06 billion yuan), down 12.7% from a month earlier.

GlobalFoundries, benefiting from the average wafer unit price, portfolio optimization and non-wafer-related revenue, still grew 1.3 per cent in the fourth quarter from the previous quarter to $2.1 billion (currently about 14.574 billion yuan), making it the only company with growing revenue and a market share of 6.2 per cent.

SMIC wafer shipments fell in line with the unit price, with fourth-quarter revenue down 15.0% from the previous quarter to about $1.62 billion (currently about 11.243 billion yuan).
