"if you accept the recommended layoffs within a specified period of time, you will get higher severance pay," said a person at Google Korea. "the main content of this job is to offer 6 to 15 months' salary as compensation based on the position and length of service."

In January, the CEO of Google's parent company, Alphabet, said in an employee memo that the company would cut 12000 jobs. Google said at the time that the job cuts were global and would immediately affect American employees. On January 18, Google rival Microsoft announced that it would cut 10, 000 jobs by the end of the third quarter of fiscal 2023.

South Korean media pointed out that Microsoft Korea, which had 475 employees at the end of last year, also began to restructure last month. From last month to this month, about 20 employees have received severance pay through interviews, including up to 24 months' salary as compensation, depending on the length of service.
