CTOnews.com, March 13, although TSMC has not yet announced specific investment plans in Europe, it has previously revealed that it is in contact with customers and partners in Europe to assess the possibility of building a plant in Europe based on customer needs and the level of government support.

According to equipment and production chain operators, TSMC seems to be preparing to set up a factory in Dresden, a major German semiconductor town. However, TSMC said it was still assessing the possibility of building a plant in Europe.

According to Taiwan's Industrial and Commercial Times, TSMC telex has chosen to set up a factory in Dresden and is expected to start production in 2025 in response to strong local demand for mature special processes in Europe. TSMC expects overseas capacity to account for more than 20 per cent of 28nm and more advanced processes in five years' time.

As far as CTOnews.com knows, Dresden already has a complete semiconductor production chain and supply ecosystem, and TSMC can get EU subsidies to build a plant here and get closer to customers.

According to public information, Dresden is the largest semiconductor center in Europe, including Infineon, Bosch, Lattice, X-Fab, NXP and other enterprises have set up wafer factories, and applied materials, ASML, Siltronic Electronic Materials (Siltronic) are also fully supported locally, semiconductor-related employment has reached more than 50,000 people.

Due to global geopolitical risks, TSMC has continued to carry out global investment layout in recent years, and has now finalized investment plans for the United States and Japan. It has also been reported that Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, India and other governments all want to strive for Taiwan wafer foundry to invest locally, but no manufacturer has yet finalized specific investment plans.

TSMC has previously stressed that it will continue to expand capacity in Taiwan, of which 3nm technology reached mass production at the end of last year and is now preparing for mass production of 2nm starting in 2025.
