A thread is an independent execution path within a program. Multithreading allows a program to perform multiple tasks at the same time, thus improving its performance and responsiveness. However, multithreading also introduces some complexities, such as thread synchronization and resource sharing, which must be carefully managed to avoid issues such as race conditions and deadlocks.

According to Eagle Dynamics, about half of the P cores are dedicated to graphics requirements. Currently, the rendering pool can be expanded to up to 16 threads (1 core = 2 threads) on the P core. The other P kernels are used by main logic threads, sound engine threads, and worker thread pools that take up all available space. The E core is only used by unrestricted resource streaming pools (1 core = 1 thread).

For some old quad-core CPU, the performance improvement that may turn on multi-threading will not be great, and may even degrade performance. In addition, if it is a high-end CPU with more than 32 threads, hyperthreading should be disabled.

In addition, most CPU will get an improvement in game performance when multithreading is enabled, and the Steam version can find the multithreading (MT) preview option in the right-click startup menu.
