The service, launched in November 2019, is designed to support cloud-based games on a variety of devices, including PC, Chromebook, Mac, iPhone and iPad.

Google said at the time that some of the cloud infrastructure for the project would continue to be used on Google Cloud and would be made available to third-party companies interested in the technology.

However, Axios's Stephen Totilo reports that Stadia's last service will also be shut down. Since cloud streaming has been repositioned, the use of the technology has been limited, such as the streaming version of Batman: Arkham Knight available to AT&T customers.

Non-game companies such as fitness giant Peloton also use the technology to provide gamification training through the cloud, but it has now been shut down. In announcing Stadia's shutdown plan in September 2022, Peloton general manager Phil Harrison admitted that the service did not attract users as expected after Google launched in November 2019.

CTOnews.com previously reported that when it announced the shutdown, Google also confirmed its intention to return all Stadia hardware purchased through the Google Store, as well as games and additional content purchased through the Stadia Store.
