CTOnews.com, March 12 (Xinhua)-- the second launch mission this year scheduled for Saturday night in Wallops Flight Facility, Virginia, has been cancelled due to windy weather, NASA said.

"Rocket Lab has cancelled the Electron launch attempt on March 11, 2023 due to strong winds in the upper air," NASA said. "the team is assessing the weather conditions in the next few days to determine the opportunity for the next launch."

Whenever launched, the 59-foot-tall Electron rocket will be launched from Launch Complex 2 (LC-2) in the Atlantic regional spaceport, when it will carry two SAR satellites for Capella Space on a "strong joint" mission.

According to the mission description, if all goes according to plan, the two spacecraft will be deployed to a circular orbit 600km above Earth about 57.5minutes after launch, providing customers with round-the-clock detailed Earth images and commercial SAR images of the highest quality and resolution.

The mission, called getting stronger together, will be the company's second launch mission at Wallops. (CTOnews.com Note: the company launched its first Electron rocket at the spaceport in the mid-Atlantic region on January 24.)

To date, Rocket Lab has launched 33 orbital missions using Electron rockets, and they are working to turn the Electron first-stage booster into a "reusable" product. Although the company has recycled boosters in previous missions, getting stronger together will not make such an attempt this time.

Rocket Lab hopes to make 15 launches with its Electron rocket in 2023, and the flight was supposed to be the company's second launch this year.

Of course, they have more than one launch pad. As the ground team prepares to launch the Electron rocket from Virginia, Rocket Lab engineers are preparing another Electron rocket for a mission from the New Zealand spaceport later this month, when two optical Earth imaging satellites will be deployed for BlackSky.
